This award, for its Italian site, positions C.O.I.M. S.p.A in the top 5% of the approximately 90,000 companies assessed by the reference platform for sustainability performance.
C.O.I.M. S.p.A., an Italian multinational company producing specialty chemicals since 1962 and operating worldwide with nineteen manufacturing and trading companies, at its Offanengo site (CR),has recently been awarded the Ecovadis gold medal, positioning itself in the top 5% of the approximately 90,000 companies assessed by the reference platform for sustainability performance.
The Ecovadis assessment takes account of twenty-one criteria in four main areas: ethics, environment, sustainable procurement, human rights and labor practices. Companies that undergo this procedure have to provide documentation in support of the data they declare, thus subjecting themselves to a strict verification process, which, by attributing a score to each of the areas investigated, establishes the level of sustainability in their corporate management.
“The decision to subject our work to verification on the Ecovadis platform is part of a broader COIM project the aim of which is to certify our constant commitment to proposing ever-increasingly sustainable chemical solutions, in accordance with its corporate management practices, which are respectful of the environment, people and areas in which we operate” states Mr.Filippo Severgnini, Regulatory, Quality & Compliance Manager of C.O.I.M. S.p.a. “The 2030-2050 European objectives for a zero climate impact can be reached exclusively by involving entire production chains. In fact, our commitment to sustainability also involves our trade partners, customers and suppliers”.
“Despite the fact that European legislation imposes the implementation of more demanding sustainability assessment methods, we plan to subject the other COIM plants all over the world to the Ecovadis assessment, starting from the United States” affirms Mr. Giuseppe Librandi, Chairman and CEO of COIM. “COIM’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond the certification processes and includes the research and development activities, which have enabled us to develop a broad portfolio of solutions from recycled and renewable sources, compostable and low VOC products; a reduction of CO2 emissions along the entire chain and enhancement of the skills and wellbeing of over 1,200 people, who make COIM’s success possible on a worldwide scale”.
