C.O.I.M. S.p.A., an Italian multinational company producing specialty chemicals since 1962 and operating worldwide with nineteen manufacturing and trading companies, records an increase in the demand for Greenexter renewable raw materials for the production of varnishes, particularly in the wood and furniture sector.
“The Greenexter resins, produced with an ever-increasingly high percentage of renewable raw materials, which has now reached a range of 50 to 65%, have been offered by COIM for over a decade. Recently, we have recorded a continuous increase in demand, especially in furniture production. In this sector, the materials play an extremely important role, as there is a direct contact with users, who are becoming more and more attentive to indoor air quality and environmental impact”, explains Fabio Vergani, COIM Coatings Product Manager. “The supply chain in the furniture industry is oriented towards certified innovative and sustainable solutions, and the use of Greenexter resins facilitates this process”.
COIM’s offer for varnishes manufacturers is not limited to resins. This results in a complete painting cycle with a low environmental impact while maintaining the same performance as that of products with components of fossil origin.
“The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the product, that is, the assessment of the advantage that can be obtained using products with renewable raw materials over those of fossil origin throughout the product’s life cycle, is the main focus of COIM’s customers”, continues Mr. Vergani. “Whether a part of structural elements, furniture, windows, doors or frames, varnished wood must have a measurable degree of sustainability and this can only be obtained if the entire supply chain is involved, from the raw materials to the varnishes and the production of home furniture and accessories”.
