COIM broadens its Isoexter-E

C.O.I.M. S.p.A., an Italian multinational company producing specialty chemicals since 1962 and operating worldwide with nineteen manufacturing and trading companies, broadens its range of Isoexter-E products, polyols containing up to 100% of renewable raw materials, used for the production of polyurethane insulation materials.

“The building and construction industry is undergoing major transformations and is strongly oriented towards increasingly sustainable products with ever-decreasing CO2 emissions. Energy saving is a top-priority goal in Europe, and the building industry, which accounts for approximately 40% of energy consumption and CO2 emissions, can make an enormous contribution”, explains Alessandro Gallipoli, COIM Isoexter R&D Manager. “COIM, ahead of its times, has offered, for over 20 years now, polyols made with recycled raw materials derived from post-consumption waste, in particular PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles, thus helping to create a circular economy. Today, due to its ongoing commitment to research and development in this field, it has broadened its Isoexter-E range of products with solutions containing up to 100% of renewable raw materials and enabling CO2 savings of up to 80%. In other words, polyurethane insulation materials made with our polyols of renewable origin not only guarantee the same performance and energy saving advantages typical of these materials, but also a more eco-friendly life cycle”.

COIM polyols of renewable origin: key advantages throughout the life cycle of polyurethane insulation products

“For the raw materials used to manufacture Isoexter-E products, COIM uses renewable resources coming from non-food crops, characterized by short regeneration times and lower CO2 values. In this way, their procurement does not affect the supply chain of food for humans or animals, so the sustainability of these solutions is guaranteed”, explains Andrea Stefani, COIM Isoexter Marketing manager for Europe and the Middle East.

The thermal insulation sector represents about 17% of COIM’s total business.  “It is a constantly growing market, both in Europe and on non-European markets. This is because, compared to other insulating materials, polyurethane is one of the solutions with the best insulating and fire-resistant performance. With its new range of Isoexter-E polyols, COIM is contributing to strengthen the competitive edge of its trade partners, as the market is demanding not only excellent insulating performance but also an increasingly sustainable life cycle of the product”, explains Andrea Stefani.

Polyurethane rigid foam is the insulating material that – thickness being equal – guarantees the best performance, with a stable thermal conductivity value between 0.022 and 0.028 W/mK, depending on the type of foam and the type of coating. This characteristic ensures high thermal insulation with significantly reduced thicknesses compared to other insulating materials. The use of polyurethane also allows savings on the quantity of material used for the insulation – a considerable advantage in terms of space and preservation of the square metres available for use, especially in cases of renovation of facades, roofs or insulation from inside, for which often there is not enough room to install bulky insulation solutions.
