COIM presents its Group Sustainability Report based on data from the 2022-2023 biennium

C.O.I.M. S.p.a., a multinational company based in Offanengo (CR), which has been developing and producing specialty chemicals since 1962 and is a leader in the production of polyesters, polyols, polyurethanes, and special resins for the production of composite materials and coatings, presents the 2023 Group Sustainability Report, based on 2022-2023 data, detailing the actions taken globally, with the exception of ATMOSA, acquired in 2024.

This is the Group's first ESG Indicators Report, addressing sustainability by considering its three components - environment, economy, and society - in order to highlight the efforts made and the future goals COIM has set. Although there are multiple objectives, the main one is to align a sustainable vision across all subsidiaries, for creating a Group-wide sustainability culture and achieving common goals. For example, this includes extending the main policies already implemented for COIM S.p.A. to other legal entities by 2024.

The report covers various thematic areas, identifying different objectives: environmental protection, corporate transparency and responsibility, and employee health and well-being.

"We are proud to announce the publication of our 2023 Sustainability Report, which highlights our unwavering commitment to sustainable development. The report was prepared by our Sustainability Committee in collaboration with an external consulting firm. As a corporate leader, COIM GROUP continues to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), demonstrating our progress in economic, environmental, and social governance." - commented Luca Gianzini, Marketing and M&A Manager of COIM GROUP.

Energy and GHH: COIM GROUP's Environmental Goals

The COIM Group is committed to setting goals and improving actions in energy efficiency and renewable energy, both at the Group level and within individual companies. For example, at COIM S.p.A., the goal is to source 100% of its electricity from certified renewable sources by 2030, with 2025 set as the starting point of the project, resulting in a reduction of related emissions as well.

The ongoing search for solutions to reduce GHG emissions is a priority for the COIM Group. In 2023, COIM S.p.A. launched a three-year decarbonization project, collaborating with an external company to develop a decarbonization roadmap for the Offanengo site. The steps defining this process were determined based on site inspections, emissions analysis (including Scope 1, 2, and, in 2024, Scope 3) according to the GHG Protocol, and evaluations of the most energy-intensive processes. The aim is to identify solutions that can reduce energy consumption and the carbon footprint of the entire company. COIM S.p.A. has prepared a GHG Report for the Offanengo site, a monitoring document that currently includes only data on direct and indirect emissions. By 2025, COIM aims to progressively extend the Scope 3 calculation at the Group level using 2024 data, focusing on Scope 3 categories with the greatest impact, with the goal of calculating the Carbon Footprint of the entire Group.

The COIM Group constantly works to develop sustainable and high-quality products, with research and development teams dedicated to each product line. Its focus is on finding solutions that lead to greater sustainability: to this end, alternatives to synthetic raw materials are used, primarily renewable (bio-based) raw materials and recycled raw materials.

ECOVADIS and adherence to the UN GLOBAL COMPACT

In 2023, COIM S.p.A. achieved the Ecovadis gold medal and is committed to maintaining it and extending the assessment to other subsidiaries. In this regard, COIM US and Synres completed and submitted their questionnaires in 2023 and 2024, respectively, both receiving the Bronze medal. The goal is to continue evaluating individual legal entities and eventually achieve a Group-wide performance assessment.

In line with the objective defined in the previous Sustainability Report, in 2023 COIM S.p.A. joined the United Nations Global Compact: this is a voluntary initiative that involves implementing universal sustainability principles and engaging in partnerships to support the UN goals. It provides an opportunity to stay informed about the latest sustainability developments, participate in interesting working groups and workshops, and take part in training courses, sharing progress and actions, while enhancing the transparency of the sustainability management system.

COIM’s corporate responsibility

COIM's goal is to pursue sustainable development based on core values related to health, safety, quality, and the environment. The commitment to continuously improving customer satisfaction, safeguarding the environment and people's health, both within and outside production sites, is systematically monitored to ensure that new objectives can be achieved in compliance with the legislation in each country where COIM operates. All manufacturing companies, except COIM India, have a Quality Management System certified according to the UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 standard and a Quality Policy.

Permanent contracts and training courses: COIM's commitment to its employees

COIM is very attentive to its employees with an approach that focuses on teamwork, sharing, and communication. Improving employee well-being is at the heart of the Group's strategy and involves the continuous evaluation of benefits to be implemented for the advantage of employees. This is a priority for the Group, which has always cared for its people over the years.

Compared to 2022, there has been an increase in job positions of about 7%, with a focus on permanent contracts, which represent 99% of contracts in 2023, consistent with 2022. This demonstrates the importance of establishing long-term, trust-based relationships aimed at supporting the company's development, which today has more than 1200 employees worldwide, more than 300 including ATMOSA.

In 2023, the Group's commitment also focused on training, offering courses on ethical, environmental, and human rights topics. With the aim of pursuing a common sustainability goal, training courses were organized on environmental sustainability topics such as Climate Change, Energy Management, Circular Economy, and Sustainable Sourcing. For the coming years, the goal is to extend these ESG-focused courses to other companies within the Group.
